UCI Mountain Bike World Cup at Fort William 2008
14th June 2008
June 6th - 8th saw the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup return to Fort William for the 100th round ever!
As usual, KSG was there to record the highlights of the weekend. Sunday saw the downhill competition build to a breathtaking finale, with most of the last 10 male riders bettering the time of the previous one. In the end South Africa's Greg Minaar, riding for the Santa Cruz syndicate, lifted an amazing 1st place in the mens elite class - almost 3 seconds clear of Gee Atherton in 2nd place and Steve Peat in 3rd.
In the ladies, the UK's Tracy Moseley took first, with Sabrina Jonnier 2nd and Rachel Atherton in 3rd.
Whilst getting a gondola lit to the top of Aonach Mor (the mountain they were racing down) I was fortuante enough to share it with the World Championships No.1, Sabrina Jonnier. This allowed an opportunity for a chat about her tactics for the race, pre-race nutrition and, of course, a few informal portrait shots.
I hope you enjoy the view...
